More than £600 has been raised to support the work of good causes in South Tyneside thanks to the Mayor’s Charity Golf Day.

A total of £622 was raised which will go towards the Former Mayor of South Tyneside Mayor’s Charity. The former Mayor’s Charity, raised funds for Cancer Connections, Great North Air Ambulance and the South Tyneside brand of Alzheimer’s Society.

The golf tournament was won by a team captained by Paul Scrafton from South Tyneside Council.

The former Mayor of South Tyneside, Councillor Richard Porthouse, said: “It was a fantastic to see so many people taking part in this event to help raise funds for good causes in the Borough.

“I would like to thank the sponsors and everyone who came out to support the day by potting a few holes as they made it a great success.”

The Mayor’s Charity Golf Day was supported by North East Bed Centre and BT South Tyneside who each sponsored a hole.

Kevin Ball, former Sunderland captain, and current senior development coach for the Stadium of Light supported the former Mayor in choosing the twelve teams who took part in the Mayors Charity Golf Day. He also donated a football signed by the Sunderland football team for the raffle that was held during the event.
