Today Newcastle’s Grainger Market announced that it has received a TripAdvisor® Certificate of Excellence.

Now in its sixth year, the achievement celebrates hospitality businesses that have earned great traveller reviews on TripAdvisor over the past year.

Certificate of Excellence recipients include accommodations, eateries and attractions located all over the world that have continually delivered a quality customer experience.

Newcastle Councillor Ged Bell, Cabinet Member for Investment and Development, said: “We’re thrilled to announce that we have been selected for the Tripadvisor 2016 Certificate of Excellence, reflecting the consistently great reviews we attract.

“The Grainger Market is a much-loved Geordie institution in the centre of Newcastle which first opened in October 1835 when a banquet was held to celebrate this.

“The market has changed a lot since then and today’s Grainger Market is light, bright and has 110 quality traders.

“Alongside traditional greengrocers and high quality butchers you can find artisan bakers, award winning street food traders, coffee shops and cafes. Take a wander through, you’ll be surprised at what this gem of a market has to offer.”

The Certificate of Excellence accounts for the quality, quantity and recency of reviews submitted by travellers on TripAdvisor over a 12-month period.

To qualify, a business must maintain an overall TripAdvisor bubble rating of at least four out of five, have a minimum number of reviews and must have been listed on TripAdvisor for at least 12 months.
