Public transport in the spotlight

Consultation about public transport services across South Tyneside will be discussed at the next meeting of the Overview and Scrutiny Co-ordinating and Call In Committee of South Tyneside Council.

Nexus is currently seeking local people’s opinions about the local transport services it provides.

The organisation must make savings and is carrying out a review of the services it will deliver in the future.

They will use the views of public transport users to make recommendations to the North East Combined Authority (NECA).

Vice Chair of the Overview and Scrutiny Co-ordinating and Call In Committee, Councillor Bill Brady, said: “For a lot of people, public transport is a real lifeline, whether it’s children getting to school, workers commuting or older people using it to stay in touch with friends and family or get to medical appointments.

“So it’s vital that they have their say about the services they use and are important to them because their views could help shape the future of public transport in the Borough.”

The Nexus consultation, which involves completing a questionnaire, is running until August 1.

The meeting of the Overview and Scrutiny Co-ordinating and Call In Committee will be held at 10am on Tuesday July 5 at Jarrow Town Hall.
