Waitrose is the first supermarket to sell fresh flower crowns, as the UK gears up for Glastonbury, the biggest festival of the year. Available to order on the supermarket’s website from today, these new additions have arrived just in time for peak festival season.
Hugely popular among festival-goers and bridal parties alike, flower crowns have become a mainstream fashion trend over the last few years. With plastic versions available in high street shops, and plenty of YouTube tutorials on how to make your own, they have become the must-have accessory for summer.
Now, Waitrose is offering its shoppers something different on the Waitrose Florist website – two beautiful styles of headdress made with real flowers. Available for delivery from 21st June, the Santini Flower Crown (£15) and Bright & Scented Flower Crown (£20), have been specially designed and will be handmade by a dedicated British florist.
Waitrose Florist buyer, Lucy Matthewson, says: ‘The trend for flower crowns is everywhere, and we’re thrilled to offer such beautiful versions to our fashion-forward shoppers. Whether you’re lucky enough to have a ticket to Glastonbury, or just want to add a floral flourish to your summer wardrobe, these handmade crowns use the best of British blooms. We’ve taken inspiration from English country gardens and British wild meadows, selecting the most colourful flowers to adorn our crowns.’
The Santini Flower Crown is made with a bright, sunshine yellow santini with delicate gypsopila and asparagus fern and the Bright & Scented Flower Crown has a mix of scented yellow and purple freesia, with a wonderfully bright orange Sonora spray rose mixed with chrysanthemums and summer foliages. Both flower crowns are tied with ribbon, and can be gently shaped to fit any head size. They can be worn as a bandeau around the forehead, or as a classic headband at the top of the head.
Available for ordering from www.waitroseflorist.com, the flower crowns last for approximately 2 days. For best results, order to arrive the day before required and keep in a cool place (ideally chilled) overnight to prolong the life of the flower crown.
