The new Mayor and Mayoress of South Tyneside are asking for residents’ support to help raise vital funds for worthwhile causes in their mayoral year.

The Mayor of South Tyneside Coun Alan Smith and Mayoress Coun Moira Smith are joined by charity representatives from Diabetes UK Clare Allom and Louise Simonian, South Tyneside Citizens Advice CEO Ian Thompson, CAST Young Carers Brian and Ellie Young, Levi Cosker, and Mark Pendleton, to launch the Mayors Charity.

This year the Mayor, Councillor Alan Smith, is supporting Diabetes UK South Tyneside, Young Carers in South Tyneside and Citizens Advice Bureau South Tyneside.

The Mayor said: “These charities make a real difference to people’s lives and carry out invaluable work here in the Borough.

“The Mayoress and I are planning a number of events and fundraisers throughout the year to help raise vital funds to support the work of these worthwhile causes.

“The money we raise will make a huge difference so I’m calling on the kindness and generosity of the people of South Tyneside to donate whatever they can spare.”
